Welcome to LifeSmarts! Here you’ll learn about consumer issues that impact your everyday life – everything from managing your finances, making smart consumer choices, understanding technology, staying healthy, and helping the environment – all with the goal of putting you in charge.

Please note that while UF/IFAS 4-H Youth Development is a co-coordinator of this competition, teams do not have to be 4-H clubs in order to participate. All public and private school teams, 4-H clubs, other organizations, etc. sign up through this site. UF/IFAS Extension has many resources and teams may find that contacting their local Extension Office will assist in educational opportunities to prepare youth for this competition, which we encourage. Schools and sites may also hear about LifeSmarts through their local Extension offices as 4-H begins to utilize the program more over the coming years. The only exception to this statement is if the winning State team is not currently registered with Florida 4-H, they may be asked to do so to secure scholarship funding.

Coaches are invited to register and create teams of Middle School (Junior Varsity) or High School (Varsity) students. Beginning September 14th, students may register and begin individual quizzes and team challenges.

Varsity teams (9th-12th grades) will need to complete the required five category and capstone quizzes by January 8th, 2021, to be considered for the state competition. The top scoring Varsity teams will be invited to take part in the ONLINE state competition set for January 23rd-30th, 2021.

We hope that you’ll check out the resources you find here, test your knowledge with practice quizzes, use TeamSmarts and LifeSmarts U, and compete online. Contact LifeSmarts staff with any questions. The state winning Varsity team (9-12 graders) will advance to the National LifeSmarts Championship, in Cincinnati, Ohio, April 17-20, 2021.  The winning team will receive a partial scholarship from the University of Florida/ IFAS Extension 4-H Youth Development program to cover some travel expenses.

Junior Varsity teams (6th-8th grades) may also compete online through January 8th, 2021. There will not be a state championship for Junior Varsity teams, however top-scoring teams will be recognized by the national LifeSmarts Program.

If you have any questions or comments about the program, please feel free to contact one of Florida's state coordinators listed below.
