Welcome to LifeSmarts! Here youth will learn about consumer issues that impact their everyday life – everything from managing finances, making smart consumer choices, understanding technology, staying healthy, and helping the environment – all aimed at putting knowledge into action!
All public and private school teams, 4-H clubs, and other youth organizations are invited to participate in this program. To participate, all coaches and youth players must sign up through the LifeSmarts website. UF/IFAS Extension has many resources and coaches are encouraged to contact their local UF/IFAS Extension Office for consumer education resources and educational opportunities to assist youth in preparing for this competition. While UF/IFAS 4-H Youth Development is a co-coordinator and sponsor for this competition, teams do not have to be a 4-H clubs to participate, however if the winning state Varsity team is not currently registered with Florida 4-H, they will be asked to do so to secure the scholarship funding that will cover a portion of the travel expenses to the national championship.
Coaches are invited to register on September 19th and create teams of Middle School (Junior Varsity) or High School (Varsity) students. Beginning September 19th, students may also register and begin individual quizzes and team challenges. Once registered, coaches and youth can check out the wealth of resources on the LifeSmarts website and youth can begin to challenge their knowledge with the online practice quizzes, capstones, and monthly TeamSmarts topic competitions.
Varsity teams (9th-12th grades) will need to complete the required five category and capstone quizzes by February 1, 2023, to be considered for the state competition. The top scoring Varsity teams will be invited to take part in the ONLINE state competition set for February 18th - 25th, 2023.
The state winning Varsity team (9-12 graders) will be eligible to advance to the National LifeSmarts Championship, held in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 27-30, 2023.  The winning state Varsity team will receive a scholarship from the University of Florida/ IFAS Extension 4-H Youth Development program to cover a portion of the team's travel expenses.
Junior Varsity teams (6th-8th grades) may also compete online through February 1, 2023. There will not be a state championship for Junior Varsity teams, however top-scoring teams will be recognized by the Florida 4-H Youth Development Program.
