LifeSmarts 2012 Training Camp: Washington, DC

We are so excited that you are interested in participating in LifeSmarts! The National Consumers League and the University of the District of Columbia's Cooperative Extension Service invites you to attend a 2012 LifeSmarts Training Camp for educators and students January 27-28, 2012 in Washington, DC!

The LifeSmarts Training Camp was designed to introduce students to LifeSmarts content through games, activities and competition, and inspire enthusiasm for learning important consumer literacy skills through teamwork and fun! Download the Event Flyer here.

2012 LifeSmarts Training Camp

LifeSmarts Team Camp
Students should attend in teams of 4 or 5, accompanied by an adult, to spend the day participating in team activities to prepare for their state LifeSmarts competition.

UPDATE: Registration for the Team Camp is closed.

LifeSmarts Coach Camp
Adult coaches will gain new strategies to use LifeSmarts in the classroom and incorporate meaningful consumer activities into student and community groups.

The LifeSmarts Training Camp is free, with meals provided. Advance registration is required.

Advance registration is required. Registration must be completed by January 20, 2012. LifeSmarts release forms are required for all participants. Additional permission or release forms may be required by your school district, organization or community group; please contact them directly.

Details
The LifeSmarts Training Camp is open to all US adult educators (coaches), including those from outside the Washington, DC metro region. Coaches may register up to two (2) teams of four (4) or five (5) students for the Team Camp on Friday, January 27, 2012. Student teams attending the Team Camp on Friday, January 27, 2012 must be accompanied by an adult coach. Space is limited, and coaches are encouraged to register immediately. Please registere here. Substitute teacher fees may be covered for coaches located within the DC Metro region. Some transportation stipends may be available for coaches located within the DC Metro region. Coaches may attend either or both days of the Training Camp.

A special note to Washington, DC metro region Coaches:

The LifeSmarts Training Camp will help prepare your students for the online and live LifeSmarts competitions, where they will compete against teams across the DC metro area for the opportunity to represent Washington, DC at the National LifeSmarts Championship in Philadelphia in April 2012! Please visit our program page to learn more about the Wshington, DC LifeSmarts Program.

In advance of the Team Camp, coaches are encouraged to:

  • View the LifeSmarts Quick-Start Guide to learn more about using LifeSmarts
  • Put together a team of 4-5 students to attend the Team Camp on January 27, 2012
  • Add March 10, 2012 to your calendar for competing in the DC LifeSmarts District Competition for a chance to win a $2,500 travel award to attend the National LifeSmarts Championship in Philadelphia!
