Recapping the 2016 FCCLA Knowledge Bowl Qualifiers

We had a great time last month traveling with FCCLA at their fall Cluster Meetings!2016-11-18-19-44-42

34 teams from 24 states met in Denver and Orlando to earn the 12 automatic qualifier spots to the national finals next summer in Nashville.

Players had to face a wide assortment of challenging questions in both consumer literacy and family/consumer science, including rounds on financial cybersecurity, the demographics of American leisure, and nutritional properties of ghee, a clarified butter commonly found in South Asian cuisine.

There was a particularly strong showing from the Midwest this year, 14907072_10157656059615065_945647863260098885_nas 9 of the 12 teams came from somewhere between Ohio and South Dakota. There will be some familiar faces in the final round (including the top 3 teams at last year’s final) but some new teams in the mix as well (including the first-ever team to qualify from Nebraska).

For the teams that didn’t qualify, don’t worry: there’s still a Second Chance to qualify! Another qualifying round happens in January, using a 100-question test similar in format to the Fall Online Test used in Round 1. To find out more, visit
