We had a great time last month traveling with FCCLA at their fall Cluster Meetings!
34 teams from 24 states met in Denver and Orlando to earn the 12 automatic qualifier spots to the national finals next summer in Nashville.
Players had to face a wide assortment of challenging questions in both consumer literacy and family/consumer science, including rounds on financial cybersecurity, the demographics of American leisure, and nutritional properties of ghee, a clarified butter commonly found in South Asian cuisine.
There was a particularly strong showing from the Midwest this year, as 9 of the 12 teams came from somewhere between Ohio and South Dakota. There will be some familiar faces in the final round (including the top 3 teams at last year’s final) but some new teams in the mix as well (including the first-ever team to qualify from Nebraska).
For the teams that didn’t qualify, don’t worry: there’s still a Second Chance to qualify! Another qualifying round happens in January, using a 100-question test similar in format to the Fall Online Test used in Round 1. To find out more, visit www.lifesmarts.org/fccla.
We hope to see you in the Music City next summer!
